1. Open Garage Band and create a New Project. Name it as LASTNAME2005. Save it to your Desktop so you can access it easier later. You will need to decide on the GENRE for your song and pick the BPM that matches the TEMPO for the song. Set the time and the key (this is optional, if you are not sure, just leave that the way it is). Create your project using whatever instruments you wish.
Suggested Tempos:
Hip Hop 80-100 BPM
Rock Ballads 80-100 BPM
Rock N Roll 120 BPM
Pop 120 BPM
Dance 120 BPM
Reggae 130 BPM
2. Click the (EYE) icon in the lower left corner. Use the buttons to select various instruments and sounds to add to your song. Each selection you make narrows your choices. You can also click on the Column View setting instead and choose specific instruments to add.
3. You should try and work with one instrument at a time and put your song together using the instruments that will have the greatest impact in your song. For this assignment, you need to use a minimum of 5, maximum of 10 instruments for your song. Once you find a beat or instrument to use, click and drag it to the new track area. Put your song together in this order of instruments for the best results:
4. You can adjust the volume of each instrument and accent your song by clicking the down arrow under the picture of the instrument. You can also make the sound go from left to right in stereo mode. If you need help with this, ask the instructor.
5. You can copy and past segments to play at specific times and should have some instruments accent at certain times during your song and not have every instrument play all the way through. You can also extend the length of the song by using the loop-arrow, and shorten it using the straight-arrow.
6. If you need more help, consult the Garage Band at a Glance PDF or the Help menu.
***This project is going to be worth 30 Points. Make sure you have five instruments, that you adjust volume levels for each instrument, you use different instruments, and that you vary your segments when putting it together.
